Congratulations, France. The French have added a second star to their shirts, and for it, the entire 23-man French roster have been given EA’s FIFA Ultimate Team World Cup Mode Man of the Match items (and dynamic upgrades.) For their honors as individual award winners, Luka Modric (Golden Ball), Thibaut Courtois (Golden Glove), and Harry Kane (Golden Boot) also get final MOTM upgrades.
France won its second World Cup Sunday night, beating Croatia by a scoreline of 4-2. The first goal of the game came off Croatian striker Mario Mandžukić’s head, but the eventual runners-up equalized shortly after through tournament breakout star Ivan Perišić. From there, it was clear that Didier Deschamps’ men had come to take home the trophy.
Antoine Griezmann slotted home a penalty in the 38th minute, called for a handball in the box, to make it 2-1. That scoreline held until the second half, when Manchester United’s Paul Pogba effectively put the game to bed with a goal of his own in the 59th minute. Kylian Mbappé, the tournament’s Best Young Player, added another feather to his cap with a beautiful goal from 25 yards.
Croatia saw a glimmer of hope in the 69th minute, as Mandžukić deflected a botched clearance from French captain Hugo Lloris into the French goal from its own six-yard box. But that was all she wrote, the staunch French defense
held strong for the final 25 minutes, and the Champs-Élysées erupted as the final whistle blew.
The entire 23-man French World Cup squad have been dynamically updated in the FIFA 18 World Cup mode, as all 23 members will receive a ‘Man of the Match’ item, if any of them are in your club already, their stats have been boosted.
